Sentient Wins “AI Startup of the Year” at the Minsky Awards 2025

Sentient has been awarded AI Startup of the Year at the Minsky Awards 2025, held at Cypher in Bengaluru, India’s largest AI conference. The recognition celebrates Sentient’s mission to build open, community-owned artificial intelligence that challenges the dominance of corporate-controlled systems.

The judges highlighted Sentient’s progress in democratizing access to advanced AGI tools through its open-source framework, ROMA (Recursive Open Meta-Agent). ROMA redefines AI reasoning by orchestrating smaller agents and tools to solve complex problems.

On the FRAMES benchmark for multi-step reasoning, ROMA Search achieved 81.7% accuracy, surpassing GPT-4o Search (65.6%) and Perplexity Sonar Pro (44.4%). On the SEAL-0 benchmark for complex, multi-source reasoning, ROMA reached 45.6%, more than doubling Gemini 2.5 Pro’s 19.8%.

“We’re working to ensure that the most advanced AGI serves humanity as a whole, not corporations,” said Himanshu Tyagi, Co-founder of Sentient and Professor at the Indian Institute of Science. “This award reinforces our commitment to building open, transparent AI systems that benefit everyone.”

Sentient’s recognition at the Minsky Awards underscores the growing momentum to make open-source AI win.
